Supply Climbs 5%, Biggest Increase in Nearly a Year


The total number of homes available for sale in the United States increased by 5% during the four weeks ending March 17. This marks the most significant year-over-year rise since May 2023. Additionally, new listings experienced a notable surge, jumping by 15%, the largest increase since June 2021.

                     

Despite the growing inventory, there hasn't been a slowdown in price appreciation. The median home-sale price in the U.S. has risen by 5.3% compared to the previous year, the second-largest increase since October 2022. Moreover, due to elevated mortgage rates and prices, the median monthly mortgage payment is just $31 short of its all-time high.

New Report from Redfin says that we should anticipate a gradual decline in mortgage rates throughout 2024, a prediction that remains largely unchanged following the recent Federal Reserve press conference, where interest rates were held steady.
